The increased demand for recreational vehicles has had a significant impact on the positive development of the portfolio.

Since the vacation mode of caravanning is constantly gaining new supporters, ever more German motor caravans and caravans are on the roads. On the cut-off date of January 1, the number of vehicles in use rose to a new record of almost 1.6 million – 5.8 percent more than a year ago.

Number of caravans in use

The number of registered caravans remained at a level of around 560,000 units until 2011. Up to this point, mainly replacement investments were made, so that new registrations and deletions of caravans balanced each other out. As interest in caravanning as a form of vacation grew, new customers joined the market, causing the stock of caravans to increase steadily by 1.5 to 3 percent annually. As of January 1, 2022, more than 756,000 caravans were registered with the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). That is 2.4 percent more than a year ago.

Number of motor caravans in use

The increased demand for motor caravans in Germany in recent years has had a significant influence on the positive inventory trend. As of January 1, 2022, the KBA counted more than 838,000 registered motor caravans, an increase of 9.2 percent compared to the previous year.
