Number of caravans in use

The number of registered caravans remained at a level of 560,000 units until 2011. Up to this point, mainly replacement investments were made, so that new registrations and cancellations of caravans balanced each other out. With the increasing interest in caravanning as a holiday form, new customers were added, resulting in a continuous increase in caravan stocks of 1.5 to 3 percent annually. As of 1 January 2019, about 700,000 caravans were registered with the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). This is 3.5 percent more than a year ago.
