Attractive jobs with good prospects: the caravanning industry is recruiting young professionals
Press Release
Flexible traveling by motor caravan and caravan has been a strong trend for years. In Germany alone, more than 1.5 million leisure vehicles are already registered. The rapid growth of the caravanning industry has also further increased the need for skilled workers. There is already a shortage of qualified personnel both in the manufacturers’ production facilities and in the dealers’ workshops. In addition, many employees of the so-called baby boomer generation will retire in the coming years.
An important milestone in the fight against the shortage of skilled workers is the specialization ” caravan and motor caravan technology ” developed by the Caravaning Industrie Verband (CIVD) for the training occupation “Body and Vehicle Construction Mechanic”. The content of the new specialty is tailored to the special requirements of the caravanning industry:
For example, unlike in the automotive sector, the production, repair and maintenance of a leisure vehicle also requires knowledge of plumbing or liquid gas. In addition, materials such as wood are used in the housing construction, which classic automotive mechanics are rather untrained to handle.
The training lasts a total of three and a half years and is very varied: At the beginning, the trainees learn the basics of craftsmanship and automotive technology. After 18 months, the trainees specialize. Here, with the specialization “caravan and motor caravan technology”, the special knowledge about leisure vehicles is added. Fully trained caravanning specialists have excellent career prospects: As all-rounders when it comes to motor caravans and caravans, they can be employed in many different areas – starting with a manufacturer’s prototype construction and ending with repair and maintenance in a specialist workshop. Training in the new specialty will begin in August 2023.
“Starting a career in the caravanning industry is worthwhile now more than ever. Our companies are growing in the long term and offer varied jobs with prospects. Not only experienced professionals benefit from this, but above all young people who are looking for the right career start,” explains CIVD Managing Director Daniel Onggowinarso.
