Number in Use
Record number of motor caravans, steady growth in caravans

- The caravan stock grows by around 10,000 vehicles to a total of 780,000 registered units
- The momentum of stock growth continues to flatten out
- Once again, the increase in the number of vehicles remains below new registrations of 21,674 vehicles; while an average of 87 per cent of new registrations contributed tothe increase in the number of vehicles between 2017 and 2021, this figure is only 47 per cent in 2025
- This is mainly due to decommissioning and exports abroad
Caravans which are taken out of service temporarily, i.e. registered and deregistered again for periods of less than a year, are just as infrequently recorded as non-registered static caravans which are in continuous use on campsites. The CIVD therefore puts the actual number thereof in Germany at more than 900,000 vehicles.

- The German motor caravan fleet sets a new record: almost 1 million vehicles registered
- The 1 millionth motor caravan will be registered in the first months of 2025
- Since 2018, the fleet has doubled, demonstrating the continuous momentum in the motorised segment
- The fleet is growing by around 80,000 units – faster than new registrations
- Low scrappage and decommissioning rate underlines the stability of the market
Motor caravans which are registered and deregistered again for periods of less than a year (so-called “temporary decommissioning”) are not included in the index of the Federal Motor Transport Authority. In
addition, motor caravans can be registered as cars, trucks or mobile offices, which would also not be included in the statistics of the Federal Motor Transport Authority. The CIVD estimates the actual number of
motor caravans in use in Germany, including the motor caravans registered in other vehicle classes, to be about 1.09 million units.
