Re-start in tourism
In order to cope with the corona pandemic, massive clearance and hygiene rules will still be necessary in Europe for some time to come and larger crowds will not be possible. Caravanning is a form of holiday with maximum self-sufficiency, which can ideally guarantee the necessary conditions for relaxing corona protection measures.
The “Motor caravan Tourism” working group, which, in addition to the CIVD, includes representatives of the German Tourism Association (DTV) and proven parking space experts, has drawn up a concrete plan for a new start in Germany that meets the requirements of the current situation. This could also be successively transferred to other European countries or regions. The following applies here: health protection has absolute priority.

The aim of these proposals is to provide an important impulse for the tourism infrastructure in Germany and thus contribute to its survival – with a manageable number of participants and initially within narrowly defined limits. Caravanning is a form of holiday that is particularly safe in the current situation, as one travels individually and only with people from one’s own household and, thanks to one’s own living, sleeping, cooking and sanitary facilities, is at home practically everywhere and therefore largely self-sufficient.
Registration of leisure vehicles must now be possible – motor caravans and caravans are used seasonally
At present, motor caravans and caravans are available from specialist dealers, which would have to be handed over to the new owners. However, they only pay for these vehicles if they can be registered. Many registration offices are still completely or partially closed or assign appointments with lower priority for leisure vehicles. However, motor caravans and caravans are generally used seasonally, with the start of the season at Easter. Therefore, unrestricted registrations are important now. The fear of the authorities is understandable in view of unrestricted stream of visitors. However, the processing of registrations via caravanning dealerships can be carried out safely without physical contact between people. This vehicle stock ties up capital, which is particularly important for the specialist trade for economic survival.
Ensuring smooth goods traffic, maintaining supply chains
In the production of leisure vehicles, there are problems with the availability of parts and components, as supply chains are partially affected, even within the EU. Politicians are called upon to ensure the smooth movement of goods despite the temporary closure of many national borders in Europe and the EU’s external border.
Intelligent restart and economic recovery
Even the largest aid programme in the history of the Federal Republic cannot replace the normal economic activity. To avoid a long-term, severe recession, the restrictions and conditions must not last a day longer than absolutely necessary. The tightening of already withdrawn measures can only be ultima ratio and is only necessary in justified exceptional regional situations.
