The European Charter on Road Safety

The European Charter on Road Safety is an action programme by the EU that aims to halve the number of road traffic deaths and injuries in EU countries by 2010. Signing companies agree - by self-obligation - to pursue the joint task to save 25,000 lives on the road. They include measures that motivate road users to act responsibly, to make vehicles safer and to improve road infrastructure.

In addition to numerous organisations, communities and automobile manufacturers from all member states of the EU, the CIVD has signed the EU charter as well. The CIVD is highly committed to promoting a better circulation of stabilisation institutions and to the setting up of an up-to-date database with regard to road safety of leisure vehicles. Furthermore, the CIVD supports the introduction of driver training for caravan combinations with an overall weight of over 3.5 tonnes up to 4.25 tonnes within the framework of the third EU Directive on Driving Licences.
