The accident figures for car/caravan combinations and motor caravans have been analysed on an annual basis by the German Federal Highway Research Institute since 1997. Overall, these figures are in the extremely low range, and offer impressive proof that leisure vehicles are among the safest vehicles on the road.
Each death on the road is one death too many. Four passengers of motor caravans and one passenger of a car/caravan combination were killed in 2010. Adjusted for inventories, this means that there were 4.3 deaths (drivers and passengers) for every 100,000 cars, in comparison to 1.2 deaths for motor caravans and 0.2 involving car/caravan combinations.
