
In 1931, the ingenious inventor Arist Dethleffs from the Allgäu region built the first “Wohnauto” (residential auto), as he then called it, in order to take his family with him on his business trips. Thus the caravan celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2006.
A number of German caravan and motor caravan manufacturers celebrated anniversaries in 2007. The most important include the 50th anniversary of the Hymer brand, the largest motor caravan manufacturer in Europe, and the 40th anniversary of the Hobby brand, the largest caravan manufacurer in Europe.
Last year, the Kehl-based firm of Bürster celebrated its 50th year of business.
